bitter cold

in a moment of hesitation, a moment of weakness, luhan falters in his steps, heart yearning to reach across the glacial distance separating him from his beloved baby brother, to gather him up into a warm embrace and tell him that everything will be fine, everything will be okay.

but everything will not be okay.

nothing will ever be fine.

because as long as luhan exists, only death and destruction can be the possible outcome, of which luhan is willing to sacrifice and fight with his life until his dying breath to avoid.

because his brother doesn’t deserve this. his innocent, precious baby brother whom he loves with every fiber of his being.

and luhan will be damned if anything gets in the way of his brother’s safety and happiness, himself included. if luhan has to disappear and lock himself up in the deepest, darkest corners of the earth, he’ll do it.

with that thought in mind, luhan strengthens his resolve and ignores the lonely ache in his chest, commanding every ounce of strength he possesses to turn away and run.

“luhan, please come home,” yixing pleads, slipping and stumbling across the crystalline ice path as luhan storms away in a flurry of biting wind and pristine snow. “you don’t belong here. you belong at home. with me.”

please go away.

"luhan, we can do this. we can fight it together. you and me. so i’m begging you, just come home.”

why are you doing this to me?

"no!”  luhan suddenly spins on his heels, angry at the universe for being born with this blasted curse, angry at his brother for not listening to him and staying as far away as humanly possible, angry at himself for being the cause of yixing’s pain and suffering. “leave me alone!” luhan screams, thousands of sparkling, jagged icicles shooting up from the glazed surface to surround him like a protective cage, shielding him away from the one he loves most, the one he needs to protect, but in the end the one he ends up hurting.

uncontrollable fury, red and hot, shoots through luhan’s veins, spreading throughout his entire body to the very ends of his fingertips, the heat transforming into icy cold energy as the force pushes away from the center of his palms.

swirling balls of bright, blue light flash across the glassy chamber, crashing against the frozen walls in a shower of cascading ice and snow.

one of the swirls of energy catches yixing by the chest, the bitter cold sinking into his heart and bringing him down to his knees in a wave of violent jerks and tremors.

“luhan, please,” yixing stretches out a weak and shaky hand, imploring.

“what have i done,” luhan whispers in a pained voice, eyes wide with horror as he continues to back away.

yixing curls into a ball as he breaks out in a coughing fit, his shining amber hair slowly fading into streaks of silvery white.

luhan bites back the sob threatening to tear from his throat, mind a tumultuous chaos of confusion, heart torn between the desire to run over to his baby brother and the terrifying need to stay away from him.

“what have i done?”
